April Fools Day – 2011
Mommy and Daddy scheduled me an appointment with Dr. Moneme to have him check on my cold and red spots around my lower belly. Mommy was concerned that I was having some issues with my immune system and wanted to have it checked out since I was just in the ER on 2/9/11 for lower stomach issues. Doc examined me and then stated that Mommy and Daddy had to take me to get blood drawn asap as he was fearful that my platelet count was low. They did their best to tell me what exactly was going on, but all I knew was that they said ‘needle’ and I don’t do needles. The nurse who drew my blood made it hurt really bad, but it didn’t last long and she gave me a lot of stickers. A few hours later, after Daddy and I returned from lunch, Dr. Moneme called Mommy to inform her that I needed to get to Children’s Hospital in Columbus as soon as possible. At this point – Mommy and Daddy were both crying, but we left for Columbus. I slept the entire trip with Mommy beside me and Daddy driving (fast), still not sure what the big deal was, but I was along for the ride. Once we arrived to super big hospital, they checked us in and sent me to the back immediately. After several hours of more tests, xrays, and a lot of “friends” coming in to see me, Suzie (my friend who knows alot) came in to tell me what was making me sick. Dr. Suzie talked with Mommy and Daddy for while, but then talked to me and said that I have bad cells in my body that is called Leukemia, and that I was going to have to camp out with her for about 10 days so I could get better. Dr. Suzie told me that I was going to be ok as long as I stayed strong. Later that night, they had Daddy carry me upstairs to a bigger room with a bigger TV where I could camp for the next few days. Mommy and Daddy keep telling me that I am so strong and that we are getting ready to start a journey together… as a Team, and that our Team never loses. I believe them. We are going to win.
